Currently reading...

So I finished Veil of Roses by Laura Fitzgerald. Overall, it was a good book..not the best ever, but good! I really enjoyed that Fitzgerald gave readers a true insight to for Persian women. She vividly described their trials and tribulations in finding a male companion and how it is not really at all their choice. The main character, Tamila Shoroush, was given a one way ticket and visa by her parents in order for her to find freedom and happiness. So for the three months that Tamila was "visiting" her sister Maryam, she was on a mission to find a Persian man to marry and essentially allow her to stay in the US. The story goes on and reveals the hardships women have and how the middle eastern/Muslim culture is far more different than the American lifestyle. I do believe Fitzgerald painted that picture very well. Even with details such as the laugh lines women have from being genuinely happy and how Persian women must struggle to have lines like those. It was definitely an eye-opener to anyone who was unaware of how brutal women can be treated in Iran. I did like the story however, I felt the ending kind of just left us hanging. While Tamila got her happy ending, I felt that the readers were left wanting more...and maybe not in a bad way, but in a way where I wanted to follow the characters through their newest journey.

Now I am currently reading The Five People You'll Meet in Heaven By Mitch Albom. This book is a classic, seeing that everyone has read it BUT me. I look forward to reading it and hope it lives up to the greatness everyone says it is!....more to come later!

Music Monday!

Really enjoying the New Lady GaGa song "Paparazzi." I want to hate her so much but her music is very catchy and if you have ever seen her sing acoustically you can see she actually has a voice. This video is annoyingly long but the song is fun!

New Artist!! Kate Earl, Song: "Melody" This is a very cute song. I love the lyrics and her voice. I think she's pretty talented and sounds like Sara Barielles and a little like Colbie Caillat. Kate has an interesting background w/ a Korean father who escaped going to war and a Filipino mother who taught her that diligence was everything. It was at her parents gas station that, Kate dreamed of making music and finally her dreams have come true. I like this quote from her site "I love it when a song comes on the radio and everyone knows the words. It’s the greatest sensation to completely fall into a moment in time, to be swept up, taken under the spell of a lyric a rhyme a melody. When songs evoke the response of turning them up and singing along, it’s magic. I tried to write an album like that."

This is Mika's new single from his new album "The Boy Who Knew Too Much." Mika is always soo fun, his songs are like mini musicals..and "We are Golden" is definitely one. I was listening to this while on the subway today and had to hold back the urge of dancing on the seats!

ENJOY!

RIP DJ AM, such a great talent.

So many losses this year--personally and in the entertainment world. I suppose this is the course of life..getting older means saying goodbye. I'm not a fan of it all that much.
